Our Response to the COVID-19

In response to the Corona virus (COVID – 19) pandemic, the Aid Our Veteran’s Board of Directors, executive management, staff and volunteers are taking this deadly virus very seriously. COVID – 19 is impacting the United States and other countries worldwide medically, socially and financially in an unprecedented rate within our business and also within our personal lives.

Here at Aid Our Veterans we are all concerned with the transmission and growing number of COVID – 19 diagnosed/confirmed cases impacting our community and how best to respond to the COVID –19. Aid Our Veterans has implemented changes in its service to conform with guidance communicated by the President of the United States, CDC, the World Health Organization, and Maryland State government officials where our main office is located. Our hope is that Aid Our Veterans is able to do all it can to help prevent the spread of COVID – 19, but still provide services that our vulnerable homeless and struggling veterans so desperately need.

Therefore, for the protection of staff, our veterans and community, Aid Our Veterans has temporarily closed its corporate business doors to the public effective Monday, March 23, 2020. We have modified services so that we are able to continue serving our veterans (new and established) remotely offsite until further notice. Aid Our Veteran’s services impacted by this closure include our main office located at 7820 Eastern Ave. Baltimore, MD 21224. We have implemented the following changes:

COMMUNICATIONS

  • All AOV staff are working thru telecommunication and computer remotely.

They are able to communicate by phone and thru computer, including email and text messaging. Email is currently our fasted way of communication.

  • The AOV main telephone number is 410-391-8721. When you call, please leave your name, number and a brief explanation of your call. These messages are checked daily and someone will return your call.

HOURS OF OPERATION

  • Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

SERVICES

All services will continue, new client intake and cases, as well as

provision of services to established clients, including case management. We ask that you please be patient with us as funds are extremely limited due to the restrictions we are facing with fundraising and community outreach (events, shows canceled or postponed and our volunteers facing the challenges of staying safe but also wanting to still help make a difference in your lives).

COMMUNITY OUTREACH SERVICES

The Assistance Program will continue its community outreach remotely by telephone or email.

Veterans who need assistance can visit our web site at www.aidourveterans.net and click on the link Need Assistance Now.

DONATION DROP OFFS:

Until further notice we will not be receiving clothing, furniture, food or toiletry donation bags (if possible, please hold on to these items until it is safe to receive them again, as they are greatly in need).

We believe that in implementing the above changes to our program services, we are doing our part to ensure the safety of community, our veterans and our AOV staff and volunteers.

Please feel free to contact me directly at 410-391-8721 or Debra@aidourveterans.net if you have further questions or experience any problems in accessing our services.

Respectfully,

Debra L Smith, President

Thank You AOV

To the staff of Aid Our Veterans:

I would like to say thank you for providing help with my financial situation and assisting me with my rent. I want to personally thank Shara and Debra for their willingness to prepare and go over my case. I appreciate you for being patient with me. Even though I was beginning to panic and call often 3 worrying about the rent havening to be in. I was calling a little more than I should have been. All of you have put me in a better situation with my land lord and assist in saving my housing for myself and my son; for that I am truly grateful.

Thank you,

Bernard Smith
